CBSk regrets World Skate´s decision about the World Championships in Brazil; Brazilian Federation supports STU in maintaining the events

The Brazilian Skateboarding Federation regrets World Skate´s decision to no longer participate in the 2022 Park and Street World Championships, as the international entity reported this Friday (2). The Brazilian Federation, however, reiterates that both competitions are confirmed and will take place at Praça Duó, Rio de Janeiro, in October.

The Brazilian Skateboarding Federation joins STU and supports the platform in holding the two competitions that will be the biggest events of skateboarding since the Tokyo Olympics.

So far, World Skate has only held one qualifying event for the Paris Olympic Games (Pro Tour, in Rome, for Street) up to now and there is no official confirmation of any other competitions.

In the run-up to Tokyo 2020, the Brazilian institutional skateboarding´s global role turned the country into the stage of three events for the Olympics qualifying, two of them with World Championships importance.

Reaffirming the significance of Brazil, the Brazilian Federation, STU and World Skate started the conversation about realizing the 2022 World Championships of Park and Street in Brazil for this current season.

In May, Brazilian Federation - as the skateboarding entity affiliated to World Skate in Brazil - and STU - promoter of both events - signed a memorandum of understanding with World Skate for the development of both competitions.

Brazilian Federation and STU reinforce that all the conditions negotiated and included in the memorandum were fulfilled by the two Brazilian entities, in order to build two major events in partnership with World Skate.

However, World Skate presented new requirements that were not in accordance with the memorandum and that had not been previously agreed between the parties. As such, STU and World Skate did not reach a conceptual, mainly, and commercial agreement on those issues that were not in the memo.

As at the moment there is no official calendar of any other qualifying events for Paris 2024, the Brazilian Federation regrets the decision of the international federation also regarding the current Olympic cycle organization and planning.
